Ms. Pac-Man

The original Ms. Pac-Man arcade game actually started off as nothing more than an illegal clone of Pac-Man called Crazy Otto. The developers GCC were already being sued by Atari over their illegal Missile Command upgrade kit and so decided to try and sell the game to Midway, who were the North American distributors of the original game. They were so impressed with it that they took it up and changed it to Ms. Pac-Man, the original game already had a massive female audience so they saw this as a great opportunity to corner that market. The game was eventually handed over to the Pac-Man creators Namco and then became the official sequel to the original dot muncher. This NES version of the arcade classic is really well done and remains remarkably close to the arcade original. The graphics are lovely and colourful with the correct aspect ratio too. The music and sound effects are also incredibly good, especially when you consider how wrong they sound on some of the other versions. I was also very pleased to see that Namco included all the intermissions too! Another good feature of this version is that it includes a wide range of play options and a two-player mode too. In all honesty I was very surprised just how well this version of Ms. Pac-Man turned out. It’s better than the original Pac-Man port for the NES and is probably one of the best home conversions out there.
